Once the cable was stripped and re-soldered the antenna works fine. The wire was broken inside the insulation. The automotive type cable assembly had a broken wire about an 1/2 inch from the motor terminals. After taking the motor out of the main body I discovered the problem. I had to bring the antenna inside my shack to troubleshoot the motor stall problem. The old spring looks identical to the new one. When the new spring I purchased from EBay arrived I can not figure out why HS refused to answer my email regarding my order? One might think they have a bad attitude. I assume that if they put packing material around the spring I might not have seen it. Whoever shipped the spring just placed it inside a USPS box without any packing. I found the contact spring listed on EBay. I never received the order or email why the springs were not shipped. I attempted to order 2 contact springs from HS using their web site. The most probable cause for that to happen was the special stainless contact spring. It would stall a few seconds after I moved the remote controller rocker switch.

Several months ago the HS 1800 pro developed a problem. I have made contacts on 160 thru 10 meters. My antenna is mounted on a Gap tilt assembly. The overall performance on all HF bands has been better then expected. That still was not all that great I then added a toroid unun now it worked great! It continued to work well but it still needed something it was a top hat of sorts I tried it on top of a 60-inch shaft similar to a Hustler But wound up with it mounted immediately on top of the coil with the whip on top of that. Next, it was the coil at the bottom of the antenna it was somewhat functional but when I moved my antenna to my Van now it did not work and required winding a new coil. Then the Motor stopped working so I replaced it with a better unit. Then I had to replace the Coil Cover it shattered while going down the road not by being struck by a limb or any other object. When I got it it worked, Well sort of! I had to replace the whip right off, next I had to replace the coil contact with a different type. I have had this antenna for over 10 years. I have been a Ham for over 50 years and an RF Engineer almost that long, I specialize in Antennas and design.
